WHEREAS, Nigeria is experiencing the highest levels of 6
violence against Christians in the world since Boko Haram's 7
insurgency began in 2009, and 8
WHEREAS, according to the International Society for Civil 9
Liberties and Rule of Law, since 2009 approximately 52,250 10
Christians have been brutally murdered in Nigeria, more than 11
anywhere else in the world, and more than 19,000 churches have 12
been attacked or destroyed, and 13
WHEREAS, estimates indicate that between 50,000 and 100,000 14
Christians have been martyred for their faith since 2009, with 15
more than 7,000 Christians killed in 2025, an average of 35 per 16
day, and 17
WHEREAS, Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa 18
Province, and Fulani militants have systematically targeted 19
Christian communities through massacres, church burnings, 20
kidnappings, and sexual violence, leaving villages destroyed and 21
millions displaced, and 22
WHEREAS, more than 5 million Christians have been displaced 23
and forced into Internally Displaced Person or refugee camps in 24
Nigeria, and 25

WHEREAS, some reports describe the violence as amounting to 26
a targeted persecution of Christians, with higher risk for 27
Christian civilians relative to other religious groups, and 28

Religious Freedom has recommended Nigeria's redesignation as a 30
