Hawaii published version HD1

Plain English: This amendment adds definitions and requirements for wheelchair repair, ensuring that manufacturers provide necessary documentation, parts, and tools to independent repair providers on fair terms.

  • Adds a new chapter in Hawaii Revised Statutes defining key terms such as 'authorized repair provider', 'covered device', 'documentation', 'embedded software', and others related to wheelchair repair.
  • Requires original equipment manufacturers to provide necessary documentation, parts, and tools for the diagnosis, maintenance, or repair of wheelchairs to independent repair providers on fair and reasonable terms.
  • The amendment text is truncated and does not include all details about the requirements for providing parts and tools.
  • It's unclear how this will be enforced or what penalties might apply if manufacturers do not comply with these new requirements.
