SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
20 ILCS 505/60 new
Provides that the Act may be referred to as the Nautica Horton Act.
Amends the Children and Family Services Act. Requires the Department of
Children and Family Services to reimburse a deceased minor's parent or any
other relative for the cost of any funeral and burial or cremation services
charged to or paid by the parent or relative if the minor's death occurred
while the minor was under the care of or receiving services from the
Department and the parent or relative lacks the resources to assume such
costs.

AN ACT concerning State government.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

Section 1.
Reference to Act.
This Act may be referred to as
5
the Nautica Horton Act.

Section 5.
The Children and Family Services Act is amended
7
by adding Section 60 as follows:

(20 ILCS 505/60 new)

Sec. 60.
Funeral and burial or cremation reimbursements.

In the case of the death of a minor while under the care of or
11
receiving services from the Department, if the cost of the
12
deceased minor's funeral and burial or cremation services is
13
charged to or paid by the minor's parent or any other relative
14
who lacks the resources to assume such costs, then the
15
Department shall reimburse that parent or relative as follows:
16
(1) the reasonable cost of the burial or cremation
17
services; and
18
(2) no less than $1,000 for the funeral, visitation,
19
reception, and any other similar services.
