SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
105 ILCS 5/27-22.2
from Ch. 122, par. 27-22.2
Amends the School Code. Requires students in the public schools in
grades 6 through 12 to receive instruction in career and technical
education, which may be satisfied by attending a field trip to a local
career and technical education training center. Allows a school board to
include the required instruction in the courses of study regularly taught
in the public schools, provided that the instruction is given each year to
all pupils in grades 6 through 12. Provides that each school board shall
determine the minimum amount of instructional time required.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5.
The School Code is amended by changing Section
5
27-22.2 as follows:

Sec. 27-22.2.
Career and technical education

(a) Beginning with the 2027-2028 school year, students in
9
the public schools in grades 6 through 12 shall receive
10
instruction in career and technical education, which may be
11
satisfied by attending a field trip to a local career and
12
technical education training center. A school board may
13
include the required instruction in the courses of study
14
regularly taught in the public schools of the district,
15
provided that the instruction is given each year to all pupils
16
in grades 6 through 12. Each school board shall determine the
17
minimum amount of instructional time required under this
18
subsection (a).

(b)
Whenever the school board of any school district which
20
maintains grades 9 through 12 establishes a list of courses
21
from which secondary school students each must elect at least
22
one course, to be completed along with other course
23
requirements as a pre-requisite to receiving a high school

diploma, that school board must include on the list of such
2
elective courses at least one course in career and technical
3
education.
