HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is highly fitting the Illinois General
3
Assembly recognizes the sacrifice of U.S. Army Specialist
4
Anthony "Tony" William Gilman and his love for his country;
5
and

6

WHEREAS, Anthony Gilman, son of Fred and Mary Gilman, was
7
born in Jerseyville on January 22, 1976; and

8

WHEREAS, Anthony Gilman grew up in Calhoun County,
9
graduating from Calhoun High School in 1994; and

10

WHEREAS, Anthony Gilman enjoyed hunting and fishing
11
throughout Calhoun and Pike County; and

12

WHEREAS, Anthony Gilman decided to enlist in the U.S. Army
13
in 1997, making it to the rank of specialist; and

14

WHEREAS, Anthony Gilman lost his life on July 4, 1999,
15
becoming the first American casualty during the peacekeeping
16
mission in Kosovo; and

17

WHEREAS, The County of Calhoun is honoring the life and
18
sacrifice of Anthony Gilman on Memorial Day 2025; therefore,
19
be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
3
SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois Route 96
4
from Mozier to the Pike County line as "Army Specialist
5
Anthony William Gilman Highway"; and be it further

6

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
7
is requested to erect, at suitable location consistent with
8
State and Federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
9
giving notice of the name of the "Army Specialist Anthony
10
William Gilman Highway; and be it further

11

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12
presented to the family of Army Specialist Anthony Gilman, the
13
County Board of Calhoun, and the Secretary of Transportation.
