HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3
Assembly recognizes the accomplishments and contributions made
4
by exceptional citizens of the State of Illinois; and

5

WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman moved to Buffalo Grove in 1971
6
with her husband, Marty, and became an active member of the
7
community, serving on the Rick Kahen Commission for Residents
8
with Disabilities and Buffalo Grove's 50th Anniversary
9
Committee; and

10

WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman devoted 25 years to teaching
11
middle school science in Kildeer Countryside School District
12
96, where she educated and mentored generations of Buffalo
13
Grove students; and

14

WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman was honored in 1993 by the Golden
15
Apple Foundation for demonstrated excellence as an educator
16
and in 1995 by President Bill Clinton with the Presidential
17
Award for Excellence in Science in Grades K-12; and

18

WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman was elected to the Buffalo Grove
19
Village Board in 2009 and served as a village trustee for six
20
years with dedication and integrity; and

WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman was elected Buffalo Grove Village
2
President in 2015 and served two terms until her retirement in
3
2023, providing steady leadership during a period of
4
significant growth and redevelopment; and

5

WHEREAS, Beverly Sussman's lifelong commitment to
6
education, civic engagement, and public service left a unique
7
lasting impact on the Village of Buffalo Grove and its
8
residents; therefore, be it

9

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
11
SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of
12
Illinois Route 83 from Arlington Heights Road to Deerfield
13
Parkway in Buffalo Grove as "Beverly Sussman Way"; and be it
14
further

15

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
16
is requested to erect, at appropriate locations and consistent
17
with State and federal law, suitable plaques or signs giving
18
notice of the name "Beverly Sussman Way"; and be it further

19

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
20
presented to the family of Beverly Sussman, the Buffalo Grove
21
Village President, and the Secretary of the Illinois
22
Department of Transportation.
