Chris Miller SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED: ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2 Proposes to amend the Executive Article of the Illinois Constitution. Prohibits a person from serving more than two terms as Governor. Effective upon being declared adopted. Applies to the gubernatorial election in 2030 and thereafter. LRB104 20702 JDS 34202 e HC0024 LRB104 20702 JDS 34202 e 1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 2 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT 3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 4 HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 5 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the 6 electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general 7 election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption 8 of this resolution a proposition to amend the Illinois 9 Constitution by changing Section 2 of Article 5 as follows: 10 ARTICLE V 11 THE EXECUTIVE 12 (ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2) 13 SECTION 2. TERMS 14 (a) These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall 15 hold office for four years beginning on the second Monday of 16 January after their election and, except in the case of the 17 Lieutenant Governor, until their successors are qualified. 18 They shall be elected at the general election in 1978 and every 19 four years thereafter. 20 (b) A person may not serve more than two terms of office as 21 Governor.
