HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bettie
4
Jean Jordan, who passed away on November 4, 2025; and

5

WHEREAS, Bettie Jordan was born to James and Viola Jordan
6
in Chicago on February 27, 1944; she committed to her faith at
7
an early age at Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church; she attended
8
Chicago Public Schools and graduated from John Marshall High
9
School in 1961; she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees
10
in nursing; she met her partner, Ivan Williams, in 1985; and

11

WHEREAS, Bettie Jordan started her nursing career at
12
Garfield Park Hospital, later named Bethany Hospital, located
13
on Chicago's West Side; she was a dedicated and diligent nurse
14
who took pride in taking care of her patients; she retired from
15
Rush Oak Park Hospital in Illinois after practicing nursing
16
for more than 30 years with a specialty in dialysis nursing;
17
and

18

WHEREAS, Bettie Jordan was also an entrepreneur and a
19
co-founder of Shir-Bet Beauty Spa, a business that became a
20
pillar of the Maywood community and beyond; she was a skilled
21
esthetician and nail technician, building an extensive
22
clientele list of individuals who turned into lifelong friends

and family; and

WHEREAS, Bettie Jordan was a founding member of We Women,
3
a women's empowerment group focused on unity, charity, and
4
social events; she was also an active, dedicated, and proud
5
member of the John Marshall High School Alumni Association,
6
serving as its membership chairperson and taking pride in
7
providing community service, hosting events, and attending all
8
school events; and

9

WHEREAS, Bettie Jordan was regarded as a social butterfly,
10
making friends wherever she went, and a fashionista who
11
enjoyed shopping and spending money on her family and herself;
12
she also enjoyed traveling and seeing the world; and

13

WHEREAS, Bettie Jordan, affectionately known as "Auntie
14
Bettie", served as a mother figure to all of her nieces and
15
nephews, and she enjoyed taking them on adventures to
16
experience new things; she will be remembered for living her
17
life to the fullest, lighting up every room she entered, and
18
being a mover and shaker who knew how to take care of business
19
and get things done; and

20

WHEREAS, Bettie Jordan was preceded in death by her
21
parents and her sisters, Doris, Delores, Jeraldine, and
22
Janice; and

WHEREAS, Bettie Jordan is survived by her sister, Shirley
2
Abel; her partner of 40 years, Ivan Williams; and a host of
3
nieces, nephews, family, and friends; therefore, be it

4

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6
we mourn the passing of Bettie Jean Jordan and extend our
7
sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
8
and loved her; and be it further

9

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10
presented to the family of Bettie Jordan as an expression of
11
our deepest sympathy.
