HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives wish to congratulate KMOX Radio on its 100th
4
anniversary of being on the airwaves; and

5

WHEREAS, KMOX hit the airwaves from St. Louis on December
6
24, 1925, thanks to civic leaders from Wagner Electric, the
7
St. Louis Globe-Democrat, the Merchants Exchange, and the
8
Mississippi Valley Trust Company; and

9

WHEREAS, KMOX has been a pioneer and preeminent leader in
10
news, talk, and sports radio broadcasting since its founding,
11
with prominent broadcasters such as Jack Buck, Joe Buck, Bob
12
Costas, Mike Shannon, Harry Caray, and many more throughout
13
its storied history; and

14

WHEREAS, KMOX has been the flagship radio station of the
15
11-time World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals for most of
16
the station's existence, carried by the signal's 50,000 watts
17
across much of the country and beyond; and

18

WHEREAS, KMOX was known as having the widest audience of
19
consistent listeners in the country and as one of the most
20
successful and profitable radio stations in the United States;

and

WHEREAS, KMOX has had a slew of prominent guests from a
2
wide range of professions, industries, and backgrounds,
3
including the Reverend Billy Graham, the Dalai Lama, various
4
Catholic Cardinals, Eleanor Roosevelt, and President Bill
5
Clinton, as well as contemporary figures from the political
6
world, including Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski, Secretary of
7
State Alexi Giannoulias, and various other local, state, and
8
national figures from Illinois and across the country; and

9

WHEREAS, KMOX continues to lead in news, talk, and sports
10
radio coverage, giving extended coverage to recent events such
11
as the May 16, 2025 tornado damage in Missouri and Illinois and
12
the conclave preceding the selection of Pope Leo XIV and his
13
coronation; and

14

WHEREAS, KMOX has adapted to serve the modern listener,
15
expanding its service to be heard on FM radio and various
16
internet streaming mediums in addition to its original AM
17
signal; therefore, be it

18

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20
we congratulate KMOX Radio on its 100th anniversary of being
21
on the airwaves, thank it for its service covering issues
22
important to Illinoisans, and wish it the best as it enters its

second century of broadcasting; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3
presented to KMOX as an expression of our esteem and respect.
