HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives wish to congratulate the Mu Alpha Lambda
4
Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. on the 22nd
5
anniversary of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship
6
initiative, which will be celebrated on January 17, 2026; and

7

WHEREAS, Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter (546) is the alumni
8
chapter of Northern Illinois University and was chartered on
9
February 7, 1975 by nine former members of the Epsilon Phi
10
Chapter; and

11

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has prominent,
12
community-focused membership and includes three members of the
13
Illinois House of Representatives, Speaker Emanuel "Chris"
14
Welch, State Representative Justin Slaughter, and State
15
Representative Maurice West; and

16

WHEREAS, For the past 22 years, the Mu Alpha Lambda
17
Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has uplifted young
18
people and celebrated Alpha Phi Alpha member Rev. Dr. Martin
19
Luther King through the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship
20
initiative; and

21

WHEREAS, Throughout the last 22 years, the Mu Alpha Lambda

Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has demonstrated
2
resilience, ingenuity, and a steadfast commitment to progress;
3
and

WHEREAS, The members of Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha
5
Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. have mentored more than 150 young
6
men from the Rockford region and have donated over $325,000 in
7
scholarships to support young men of color attending college
8
or a university; and

9

WHEREAS, The Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha
10
Fraternity, Inc. has thrived with its character shaped by the
11
collective efforts of its organization and members; and

12

WHEREAS, January 17, 2026 is a day to honor the past,
13
embrace the present, and envision a promising future for the
14
Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
15
and the people of Illinois; therefore, be it

16

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18
we congratulate the Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha
19
Fraternity, Inc. for their continuous commitment to our youth
20
and contributions to the success and prosperity of our great
21
State on the occasion of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
22
Scholarship initiative's 22nd anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

presented to the Mu Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha

Fraternity, Inc. as an expression of our esteem and respect.
