HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs),
3
also known as nurse anesthesiologists or nurse anesthetists,
4
are advanced practice registered nurses who are among the
5
nation's most trusted professions, having provided anesthesia
6
care to patients in the United States for more than 150 years;
7
and

8

WHEREAS, CRNAs became the first nursing specialty to be
9
accorded direct reimbursement rights by Medicare due to
10
legislation passed by Congress in 1986; and

11

WHEREAS, CRNAs are the primary anesthesia providers in
12
rural and underserved communities and continue to be the
13
primary providers of anesthesia care to U.S. military
14
personnel; and

15

WHEREAS, CRNAs practice in every setting in which
16
anesthesia is delivered, including traditional hospital
17
surgical suites, obstetrical delivery rooms, critical access
18
hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and the offices of
19
dentists, podiatrists, ophthalmologists, and pain management
20
specialists; and

21

WHEREAS, CRNAs are qualified to make independent judgments

regarding all aspects of anesthesia care based on their
2
education, training, board certification, and licensure; and

3

WHEREAS, CRNAs are trusted anesthesia experts, caring for
4
patients safely and compassionately, delivering specialized,
5
cost-effective care to all patients, from newborns to seniors,
6
for every type of procedure in all types of facilities; and

7

WHEREAS, CRNAs' experience in critical care nursing, in
8
addition to anesthesia care, provides the training and
9
education to address unique healthcare challenges of some of
10
our sickest patients, including veterans; and

11

WHEREAS, National CRNA Week will be held from January 18
12
through January 24, 2026; therefore, be it

13

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15
we declare the week of January 18 through January 24, 2026 as
16
CRNA Week in the State of Illinois to recognize the importance
17
of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and their
18
role in providing high-quality care to the public.
