HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Half a million Illinoisans depend on the
3
Affordable Care Act's health insurance marketplace to provide
4
healthcare for their families; and

5

WHEREAS, The affordable insurance options available on the
6
Get Covered Illinois marketplace have offered peace of mind to
7
small business owners, self-employed entrepreneurs,
8
independent contractors, individuals balancing work and
9
education, and people working part-time jobs; and

10

WHEREAS, Federal subsidies created through the Inflation
11
Reduction Act of 2022 kept health insurance accessible, even
12
as household budgets were strained by many other rising costs;
13
and

14

WHEREAS, As a key deadline to extend these cost-saving
15
subsidies approaches, President Donald Trump stated: "I don't
16
want to extend them for two years. I'd rather not extend them
17
at all."; and

18

WHEREAS, Despite bipartisan support for these subsidies,
19
President Trump and Republican leaders allowed them to expire
20
on January 1, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Customers on Get Covered Illinois and other
2
insurance marketplaces are now facing massive increases in
3
their insurance costs, with many seeing premiums more than
4
double and deductibles rising by as much as $10,000 per
5
person; and

6

WHEREAS, The Keiser Family Foundation calculates that
7
Illinois will be among the states most grievously impacted by
8
Trump's actions, taking an average of $927 per year out of
9
people's pockets; and

10

WHEREAS, Rural and downstate communities are even more
11
negatively impacted, costing residents of Darrin LaHood's 16th
12
Congressional District more than $1,400, costing residents of
13
Mary Miller's 15th Congressional District more than $1,500,
14
and costing residents of Mike Bost's 12th District more than
15
$2,000 every year; and

16

WHEREAS, Up to 140,000 Illinoisans will no longer be able
17
to afford their health insurance because of Donald Trump's
18
actions, on top of the hundreds of thousands who will lose
19
access to Medicaid because of Trump's cuts; and

20

WHEREAS, The Trump tax bill will give more than $100
21
billion in tax cuts to the ultra-wealthy and corporations, and
22
working families have repeatedly been forced to pay the bill

with cuts to care, cuts to programs, and higher insurance
2
costs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5
we call on Congress to end the Trump healthcare affordability
6
crisis by immediately reinstating the 2022 healthcare
7
subsidies.
