HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, While Illinois saw a 8.3% decrease in overdose
3
deaths in 2023, compared to only a 4% decline on the national
4
scale, there were still 3,502 overdose deaths in Illinois in
5
2023, which is 3,502 too many; and

6

WHEREAS, One overdose prevention method that has seen some
7
success is prescription drug take-backs, which are events run
8
by local communities where residents can turn in unused or
9
expired prescription drugs that they have in their homes; and

10

WHEREAS, Governor JB Pritzker signed the Drug Take-Back
11
Act (Public Act 102-1055, HB1780) into law on June 10, 2022;
12
and

13

WHEREAS, From 2024-2025 a number of areas reported success
14
with drug take-backs, including Cook County, which collected
15
5,443 pounds of unused medication, and DuPage County, which
16
collected 13,470 pounds; and

17

WHEREAS, The success that prescription drug take-back
18
events have had in lowering the number of overdose deaths in
19
Illinois is encouraging for the future; therefore, be it

20

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE

HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

we declare June 10, 2026 as Prescription Drug Take-Back Day in
3
the State of Illinois.
