HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives wish to congratulate Leo Geerts on the
4
occasion of his retirement as chief of the Albany Fire
5
Protection District; and

6

WHEREAS, Chief Geerts joined the Albany Volunteer Fire
7
Department in April 1979 and began serving as a firefighter in
8
August 1979; and

9

WHEREAS, Chief Geerts was a charter member of Albany Fire
10
Protection District 1981-1982 and served as its secretary and
11
treasurer from 1983-1984; and

12

WHEREAS, Chief Geerts became fire district training
13
officer/captain in 1984 and was promoted to assistant chief of
14
Albany Fire Protection District in 1990; and

15

WHEREAS, Chief Geerts became the Albany Fire Protection
16
District Chief in 1994; and

17

WHEREAS, Chief Geerts was also vice-president of the
18
Illinois Firefighters Association and president of the
19
Ambulance Association in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Chief Geerts, throughout his years of service,
2
was instrumental in modernizing the Albany Fire Protection
3
District in equipment and technique, creating a fire
4
protection district that is well-positioned to continue
5
serving its citizens well into the future; therefore, be it

6

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8
we congratulate Leo Geerts on his retirement as chief of the
9
Albany Fire Protection District, and we wish him the best in
10
all his future endeavours; and be it further

11

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12
presented to Chief Geerts as a symbol of our respect and
13
esteem.
