HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Illinois
4
State Police Lieutenant John Herbek (Ret.), who passed away on
5
January 16, 2026; and

6

WHEREAS, Lt. Herbek was born on August 31, 1948; he
7
graduated with Illinois State Police Cadet Class 48 in 1970,
8
and he was assigned the badge number #1763; and

9

WHEREAS, Lt. Herbek was originally assigned to District 10
10
of the Illinois State Police; he was promoted to corporal on
11
July 16, 1979, sergeant on December 16, 1981, master sergeant
12
on January 1, 1984, and lieutenant on July 1, 1991; he held a
13
variety of critical assignments throughout his career,
14
including serving at the Illinois State Police Academy, the
15
Springfield Command Center, Inspections and Audits, and the
16
Central Vault, and he served as chief of staff for the
17
superintendent of the Division of State Troopers; he also
18
voluntarily served in District 13 to assist in the response to
19
the 1982 Marion tornado outbreak; he retired on December 31,
20
1998; and

WHEREAS, Lt. Herbek was an active member of the Retired
22
State Police Association of Illinois, the Illinois State

Police Federal Credit Union, the Illinois State Police
2
Heritage Foundation, and Illinois State Police American Legion
3
Post 1922; and

4

WHEREAS, Lt. Herbek was a devoted public servant whose
5
career was defined by integrity, service, and pride; he will
6
be remembered for his dedication to the Illinois State Police
7
and the people he faithfully served; and

8

WHEREAS, Lt. Herbek is survived by his wife, Barbara;
9
therefore, be it

10

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12
we mourn the passing of Illinois State Police Lieutenant John
13
Herbek (Ret.) and extend our sincere condolences to his
14
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15
further

16

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17
presented to the family of Lt. Herbek as an expression of our
18
deepest sympathy.
