HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives wish to congratulate the USA Men's Hockey Team
4
on defeating Canada for an Olympic gold medal in the Milano
5
Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy; and

6

WHEREAS, The USA Men's Hockey Team took home its third
7
overall Olympic gold medal in hockey and its first Olympic
8
gold medal since the historic victory over the Soviet Union in
9
the 1980 Winter Olympics; and

10

WHEREAS, The USA Men's Hockey Team played five games
11
before facing Canada, with a 5-1 win over Latvia, a 6-3 win
12
over Denmark, a 5-1 win over Germany, a 2-1 overtime win
13
against Sweden, and, penultimately, a 6-2 win over Slovakia;
14
and

15

WHEREAS, The USA Men's Hockey Team faced Canada in an epic
16
gold-medal game that went into overtime, with the USA team
17
only allowing one point during regulation thanks to goalie
18
Connor Hellebuyck allowing only one goal out of the 42 shots he
19
faced; USA forward Matt Boldy scored against Canada six
20
minutes into the first period of the game; and

21

WHEREAS, With the score at the end of regulation being

1-1, the USA Men's Hockey Team and the Canadian team went into
2
a sudden-death overtime; three minutes in, Jack Hughes scored
3
against Canada, securing the game and an Olympic gold medal;
4
and

WHEREAS, The USA Men's Hockey Team is led by Head Coach
6
Mike Sullivan, Assistant Coaches John Hynes, John Tortorella,
7
David Quinn, Goaltending Coach Mike Buckley, and Video Coaches
8
Madison Nikkel and Mike King; and

9

WHEREAS, The USA Men's Hockey Team includes Matt Boldy of
10
the Minnesota Wild, Kyle Connor of the Winnipeg Jets, Jack
11
Eichel of the Vegas Golden Knights, Brock Faber of the
12
Minnesota Wild, Jake Guentzel of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Noah
13
Hanifin of the Vegas Golden Knights, Connor Hellebuyck of the
14
Winnipeg Jets, Jack Hughes of the New Jersey Devils, Quinn
15
Hughes of the Minnesota Wild, Clayton Keller of the Utah
16
Mammoth, Jackson LaCombe of the Anaheim Ducks, Dylan Larkin of
17
the Detroit Red Wings, Captain Auston Matthews of the Toronto
18
Maple Leafs, Alternate Captain Charlie McAvoy of the Boston
19
Bruins, J.T. Miller of the New York Rangers, Brock Nelson of

the Colorado Avalanche, Jake Oettinger of the Dallas Stars,

Jake Sanderson of the Ottawa Senators, Jaccob Slavin of the

Carolina Hurricanes, Jeremy Swayman of the Boston Bruins, Tage

Thompson of the Buffalo Sabres, Brady Tkachuk of the Ottawa

WHEREAS, The USA Men's Hockey Team's victory over Canada
4
and Olympic gold medal have brought considerable pride to the
5
residents of the State of Illinois and the United States as a
6
whole, and this achievement will be cherished for decades to
7
come; therefore, be it

8

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10
we formally congratulate the USA Men's Hockey Team for winning
11
an Olympic gold medal at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter
12
Olympics; and be it further

13

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be given
14
to Head Coach Mike Sullivan, the assistant coaches, and the
15
players for their incredible victory.
