HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sunil
4
Puri, a visionary business leader, philanthropist, and
5
respected member of the Rockford community; and

6

WHEREAS, Sunil Puri, born in Mumbai, India, came to
7
Rockford, Illinois in 1979, where he attended Rockford
8
College, now Rockford University, beginning a journey defined
9
by determination, entrepreneurship, and service to his
10
community; and

11

WHEREAS, Sunil Puri founded First Midwest Group in 1984,
12
which became a driving force in the economic development of
13
Rockford, helping shape the city through commercial,
14
residential, and retail developments that created jobs and
15
expanded opportunity; and

16

WHEREAS, Sunil Puri believed deeply in education and
17
opportunity, supporting numerous initiatives, including the
18
creation of the Puri Business School at Rockford University,
19
cultivating future generations of leaders; and

20

WHEREAS, Sunil Puri's commitment to community extended
21
beyond business through philanthropy and civic leadership that

strengthened organizations, supported residents, and enhanced
2
the quality of life throughout the Rockford Region; and

3

WHEREAS, Sunil Puri was instrumental in establishing the
4
Keeling-Puri Peace Plaza, a place dedicated to unity and
5
understanding among people of all nations and backgrounds,
6
reflecting his belief in the power of community and shared
7
purpose; and

8

WHEREAS, Sunil Puri's legacy will endure not only through
9
the developments and institutions he helped create but also
10
through the countless lives he uplifted with his generosity,
11
vision, and willingness to invest in the future of others;
12
therefore, be it

13

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15
we mourn the passing of Sunil Puri and extend our sincere
16
condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
17
him; and be it further

18

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19
presented to the family of Sunil Puri as an expression of our
20
deepest sympathy.
