HOUSE RESOLUTION
2
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of
4
Delores Showalter, who passed away on February 26, 2026; and
5
WHEREAS, Delores Showalter, the daughter of Frank and
6
Dortha (Geer) Showalter, was born on July 8, 1944; she lived
7
most of her life in Fancy Prairie before moving to Sherman; and
8
WHEREAS, Delores Showalter worked for the State of
9
Illinois for 35 years, serving in key leadership roles in four
10
state agencies and advocating passionately for women in state
11
government; and
12
WHEREAS, Following a distinguished career with the State
13
of Illinois, Delores Showalter continued making a difference
14
for families at the Hope Institute for Children and Families
15
in Springfield, where she served as chief human resources
16
officer from 2003 until her retirement in 2018; and
17
WHEREAS, Delores Showalter was instrumental in shaping the
18
Hope Institute as it is known today by helping build Hope
19
School's ten-year strategic plan and strengthening human
20
resources infrastructure at a critical time of growth, helping
21
to more fully realize the Hope Institute's mission on behalf

of unique learners and special needs families; and
2
WHEREAS, Delores Showalter loved playing cards, sewing,
3
and cross stitching in her free time, but she loved the company
4
of family most of all; and
5
WHEREAS, Delores Showalter's life and work serve as
6
powerful examples of how people who live in love and radiate
7
compassion can touch countless lives; and
8
WHEREAS, Delores Showalter is survived by her sisters,
9
Gail (David) Copi, Sharon (Steve) Mitts, and Diane (Bill)
10
Hipshire; three nieces and six nephews; 11 great-nieces; and
11
one great-great-nephew and two great-great-nieces; therefore,
12
be it
13
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15
we mourn the passing of Delores Showalter and extend our
16
sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
17
and loved her; and be it further
18
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19
presented to the family of Delores Showalter as an expression
20
of our deepest sympathy.
