HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives wish to celebrate the athletes, coaches, and
4
staff members of the Team Illinois delegation who will proudly
5
compete at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minneapolis,
6
Minnesota; and

7

WHEREAS, The Special Olympics USA Games will be held from
8
June 20 to June 26, 2026 and will be one of the nation's
9
largest and most inclusive sporting events, uniting more than
10
3,000 athletes, 1,500 coaches, 10,000 volunteers, and an
11
expected 75,000 fans from across all 50 states through the
12
transformative power of sport; and

13

WHEREAS, Among the participants of the Special Olympics
14
USA Games will be 80 proud representatives of Team Illinois,
15
including 43 athletes, 11 Unified partners, 14 coaches, three
16
youth leaders, and nine staff, competing for gold in eight
17
sports, including athletics, bocce, bowling, gymnastics,
18
powerlifting, swimming, Unified basketball, and Unified
19
volleyball, while providing youth leadership experiences; and

20

WHEREAS, These Team Illinois athletes showcase exceptional
21
talent and determination, achieving inspiring results and
22
demonstrating the power of preparation and unity in obtaining

success; and

WHEREAS, The contributions of these Team Illinois
3
athletes, coaches, and other representatives are a testament
4
to their dedication and passion and the power of the Special
5
Olympics movement to uplift individuals and communities; and

6

WHEREAS, The accomplishments of the remarkable individuals
7
of Team Illinois bring pride to our State and illustrate the
8
life-changing impact of the Special Olympics movement,
9
fostering inclusion, dignity, and opportunity for people with
10
intellectual disabilities; therefore, be it

11

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13
we congratulate the athletes, coaches, and staff members of
14
the Team Illinois delegation as they prepare for the 2026
15
Special Olympics USA Games; and be it further

16

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
17
presented to Special Olympics Illinois as a symbol of our
18
esteem and respect.
