HOUSE RESOLUTION

2

WHEREAS, Adam and Eve Day is an observance dedicated to
3
recognizing the shared origin of humanity and promoting
4
harmony among all people regardless of background, belief, or
5
heritage; and

6

WHEREAS, The concept of Adam and Eve Day has historical
7
references dating back to the 1800s and was revived by Khawaja
8
Shamsuddin Azeemi (Sufi Saint of the 21st Century) in 2003,
9
establishing its celebration annually on the second Sunday in
10
August; and

11

WHEREAS, The observance was introduced to Illinois by the
12
Illinois Interfaith Organization in 2022 and was officially
13
recognized through a proclamation passed by the Park District
14
of Hanover Park, reflecting community support for its message
15
of unity and diversity; and

16

WHEREAS, Illinois Interfaith Organization Chairman Nauman
17
Khan Azeemi has diligently promoted and educated communities
18
about the significance of Adam and Eve Day, including outreach
19
and participation at the Parliament of the World's Religions
20
conference in Chicago in 2023 and its inaugural Parade of
21
Faiths, and continues to advance its message through
22
interfaith initiatives; and

WHEREAS, Illinois is a state enriched by cultural,
2
religious, and ethnic diversity and respect, inclusion, and
3
cooperation among all its citizens; therefore, be it

4

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6
we declare August 9, 2026 as Adam and Eve Day in the State of
7
Illinois; and be it further

8

RESOLVED, That we encourage all residents to observe this
9
day with programs, events, and reflections that promote unity,
10
compassion, and understanding across all communities; and be
11
it further

12

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13
delivered to the Illinois Interfaith Organization as a symbol
14
of our respect and esteem.
