HOUSE RESOLUTION
2
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives are pleased to congratulate Elizabeth "Betsy"
4
Shapiro, D.D.S., J.D. on the recent conclusion of her service
5
as the interim executive director of the American Dental
6
Association (ADA) and her continued, distinguished service to
7
organized dentistry; and
8
WHEREAS, Dr. Shapiro has dedicated her professional life
9
to advancing oral health, serving her patients with skill and
10
compassion, and strengthening the dental profession through
11
leadership, advocacy, and public service; and
12
WHEREAS, Dr. Shapiro is a graduate of the University of
13
Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry and earned her Juris
14
Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law,
15
combining her dental background with legal training and
16
executive leadership in service to organized dentistry; and
17
WHEREAS, Dr. Shapiro has served the ADA in numerous
18
important roles, including as the 2011-2012 Hillenbrand
19
Fellow, senior director of the Center for Dental Practice
20
Policy, and interim executive director, and she now returns to
21
her role as the chief of governance and strategy management;
22
and

WHEREAS, In these roles, Dr. Shapiro has helped to guide
2
the work of the ADA, support the profession of dentistry, and
3
advance policy, governance, and strategic leadership on behalf
4
of dentists and patients across the nation; and
5
WHEREAS, Dr. Shapiro follows in a proud family tradition
6
of service as the daughter of Dr. David Shapiro, who was
7
himself a dentist, a former member of the Illinois House of
8
Representatives, and later a member and minority leader in the
9
Illinois Senate; and
10
WHEREAS, Inspired by her father's legacy of professional
11
and public service, Dr. Shapiro has brought great credit to
12
the State of Illinois through her own exceptional
13
contributions to dentistry and organized dentistry at both the
14
State and national levels; therefore, be it
15
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17
we congratulate Elizabeth "Betsy" Shapiro, D.D.S., J.D. on her
18
outstanding career in dentistry, commend her many
19
contributions to the American Dental Association, the Illinois
20
State Dental Society, and the profession at large, and wish
21
her continued success in her service to organized dentistry;
22
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

presented to Dr. Shapiro as an expression of our esteem and
