HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Christie
4
E. (Thomas) Fischer of Zion, who passed away on February 23,
5
2026; and

6

WHEREAS, Christie Fischer, the daughter of Logan H. Thomas
7
Jr. and Jessie E. Thomas, was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on
8
September 5, 1959; she served as an electronic signals
9
intelligence analyst for the United States Army from 1981 to
10
1985, and she received the Army Achievement Medal, Oak Leaf
11
Cluster, and the Army Commendation Medal for her service; she
12
received a Juris Doctorate from Chicago-Kent College of Law in
13
2005 and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Barat College,
14
graduating magna cum laude in 2002; she married Christopher
15
James Fischer in Indianapolis on October 25, 1986; and

16

WHEREAS, Christie Fischer worked as a loss prevention
17
investigator for White Hen Pantry, Inc., a service
18
representative for the American Medical Association, and as an
19
associate instructor in Criminal Law and Legal Writing for
20
Westwood College; she served as a clinical instructor, a
21
research assistant, and a clinic intern for the Law Offices of
22
Chicago-Kent Richard Kling from 2003 to 2005; she then became
23
a staff attorney in the Expungement Unit for the Office of the

State Appellate Defender from 2005 to 2013 before working for
2
the Law Offices of Fischer and Associates from 2014 to 2026;
3
and

4

WHEREAS, Christie Fischer served as an usher and volunteer
5
at Tempel Lipizzans; she was also involved with the Illinois
6
State Bar Association, the Association of Women Attorneys of
7
Lake County, the Lake County NAACP, the Lake County Coalition
8
to Reduce Recidivism, the Englewood Institute for Civil Rights
9
and Studies, the Black Law Student Association, the Student
10
Animal Defense League, the Chicago-Kent Chapter, the American
11
Civil Liberties Union, the United States Dressage Federation,
12
and the United Schutzhund Clubs of America; and

13

WHEREAS, Christie Fischer received many awards through her
14
community involvement and employment, including the Justinian
15
Award for Service from the Lake County Coalition to Reduce
16
Recidivism, a Certificate of Appreciation from the Rock Island
17
County NAACP, the St. Joseph the Worker Award from the
18
Evangelical Catholic Diocese of the Northwest, and the Service
19
Award from the Illinois House of Representatives; and

20

WHEREAS, Christie Fischer loved cooking, reading books,
21
watching movies, and caring for animals, especially dogs and
22
horses; and

WHEREAS, Christie Fischer was known for her wide ranging
2
sense of humor, her devotion to her friends and family, and her
3
determination to protect the defenseless; and

4

WHEREAS, Christie Fischer was preceded in death by her
5
parents and her mother-in-law, Mary Virginia Fischer; and

6

WHEREAS, Christie Fischer is survived by her husband,
7
Christopher, and her brother, Gregory L. (Sherma) Thomas;
8
therefore, be it

9

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11
we mourn the passing of Christie E. (Thomas) Fischer and
12
extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
13
who knew and loved her; and be it further

14

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15
presented to the family of Christie Fischer as an expression
16
of our deepest sympathy.
