HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives wish to commend Aman Yohannes, a student at
4
Loyola Academy, for distinguishing himself through sustained
5
excellence in academics, extracurricular activities, and civic
6
engagement; and

7

WHEREAS, Aman Yohannes is a dynamic youth leader in the
8
Uptown neighborhood of Chicago's 46th Ward who immigrated to
9
the United States from Ethiopia at a young age, bringing a
10
global perspective that informs his leadership and engagement
11
in civic and international issues; and

12

WHEREAS, While attending Loyola Academy, Aman Yohannes has
13
been deeply involved in a wide range of meaningful activities,
14
including Ambassadors, Debate, Hope Squad, Model United
15
Nations, Politics Club, Scholastic Bowl, Youth Civic Union,
16
and student newspaper The Prep, demonstrating both breadth and
17
depth of engagement; and

18

WHEREAS, Aman Yohannes has demonstrated exceptional
19
achievement in Model United Nations, earning repeated
20
recognition as an Outstanding Delegate at conferences and
21
contributing to the success and development of fellow
22
participants through mentorship and research support; and

WHEREAS, Aman Yohannes has served as president of the
2
Politics Club, where he has led substantive discussions on
3
topics ranging from local elections to international affairs
4
by incorporating multiple news sources and perspectives,
5
fostering thoughtful dialogue, encouraging broad student
6
participation in civic discourse, and helping peers critically
7
analyze current events and engage in informed, respectful
8
debate; and

9

WHEREAS, Aman Yohannes has also served on the board of
10
Loyola Academy's Diversity, Inclusion, and Cultural Engagement
11
(DICE) organization, where he has worked to promote a more
12
inclusive and equitable school community; and

13

WHEREAS, Beyond his formal leadership roles, Aman Yohannes
14
has actively supported less experienced students by providing
15
guidance on conference strategy and preparation, strengthening
16
the overall performance of his peers; and

17

WHEREAS, Aman Yohannes has been recognized as a peer
18
leader at Loyola Academy, such as when he was selected as a
19
featured speaker at the school's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
20
assembly and Mass, where he delivered remarks that resonated
21
across the school community and reflected his commitment to
22
service and justice; and

WHEREAS, Aman Yohannes has received a number of accolades
2
during his high school career, including being awarded a top
3
honor at Loyola Academy for co-curricular achievement in
4
recognition of his outstanding leadership and involvement
5
among a junior class of approximately 500 students; and

6

WHEREAS, Aman Yohannes has also contributed to service
7
initiatives and continues to pursue opportunities to deepen
8
his understanding of global issues, expressing aspirations
9
toward a future career in law, public policy, or foreign
10
service; therefore, be it

11

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13
we commend Aman Yohannes for his exemplary leadership,
14
academic achievement, and commitment to civic engagement, and
15
we thank him for the positive impact he has made on his school
16
and community; and be it further

17

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18
presented to Aman Yohannes as an expression of our esteem and
19
respect.
