HOUSE RESOLUTION
2
WHEREAS, Recent federal fiscal year data has revealed
3
approximately four million reports were made to child
4
protective services nationwide; and
5
WHEREAS, Child abuse and neglect are serious problems
6
affecting every segment of our community, and finding
7
solutions requires input and action from everyone; and
8
WHEREAS, Our children are our most valuable resources and
9
the future of our communities; and
10
WHEREAS, Child abuse can leave long-term psychological,
11
emotional, and physical effects that have lasting consequences
12
for victims of abuse; and
13
WHEREAS, Protective factors are conditions that reduce or
14
eliminate risk and promote the social, emotional, and
15
developmental well-being of children; and
16
WHEREAS, Effective child abuse prevention activities
17
succeed because of the partnerships created between child
18
welfare professionals, educators, health professionals,
19
community members, faith-based organizations, businesses, law
20
enforcement agencies, and families; and

WHEREAS, For 40 years, the La Rabida Children's Advocacy
2
Center in the south suburbs of Chicago has provided critical
3
care, advocacy, and support to children and families,
4
strengthening our communities and fostering safe, stable, and
5
nurturing environments; and
6
WHEREAS, Communities must make every effort to promote
7
programs and activities that create strong and thriving
8
children and families; and
9
WHEREAS, We must work together as a community to increase
10
awareness about child abuse and to contribute to promoting the
11
social and emotional well-being of children and families in
12
safe, stable, and nurturing environments; and
13
WHEREAS, Prevention remains the best defense for our
14
children and families; therefore, be it
15
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17
we declare April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the
18
State of Illinois; and be it further
19
RESOLVED, That we urge all Illinoisans to recognize this
20
month by dedicating themselves to the task of improving the

quality of life for all children and families.
