HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives wish to congratulate the Massac County
4
Historical Society on the occasion of its 50-year anniversary;
5
and

6

WHEREAS, In 1976, the Massac County Historical Society was
7
founded to celebrate, preserve, and promote knowledge of the
8
history of Massac County; and

9

WHEREAS, Since its founding, the Massac County Historical
10
Society has fulfilled this mission by establishing the Elijah
11
P. Curtis Home Museum, sharing the history of Major Elijah
12
Patterson Curtis and the rich heritage of Massac County; and

13

WHEREAS, The Elijah P. Curtis Home Museum has been listed
14
on the National Register of Historic Places and restored in
15
part to the time period when Major Curtis and his family lived
16
there, and the museum also contains displays highlighting
17
other eras of Massac County history; and

18

WHEREAS, The Massac County Historical Society has further
19
advanced its mission by publishing four volumes of Massac
20
County history along with several brochures and other
21
informational materials; and

WHEREAS, On June 6, 2026, the Massac County Historical
2
Society will hold a celebration to honor its 50th anniversary;
3
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6
we congratulate the Massac County Historical Society on
7
celebrating its 50-year anniversary on June 6, 2026; and be it
8
further

9

RESOLVED, That we commend the Massac County Historical
10
Society for its many contributions and outstanding service in
11
preserving the history of Massac County and the State of
12
Illinois; and be it further

13

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14
presented to the Massac County Historical Society as a symbol
15
of our esteem and respect.
