HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Illinois park districts, forest preserve
3
districts, conservation districts, recreation departments, and
4
special recreation associations enrich communities by
5
promoting health and wellness, supporting youth development,
6
fostering inclusion and accessibility, and creating meaningful
7
opportunities for residents of all ages, abilities, and
8
backgrounds to connect with one another and with nature; and

9

WHEREAS, Local park and recreation agencies play an
10
essential role in conserving natural resources, restoring
11
native habitats, protecting wildlife, and preserving open
12
spaces while helping children and families develop a lifelong
13
appreciation for the outdoors through hands-on experiences
14
throughout parks, trails, prairies, and forests; and

15

WHEREAS, Park and recreation agencies contribute
16
significantly to the economic vitality of Illinois by creating
17
jobs, attracting tourism, increasing property values,
18
strengthening local tax bases, enhancing quality of life, and
19
making communities more attractive places to live, work, and
20
invest; and

21

WHEREAS, The Illinois Association of Park Districts and
22
its member agencies have established Illinois as a national

leader in parks, recreation, and conservation by providing
2
residents with exceptional parks, open spaces, and
3
recreational programs; therefore, be it

4

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6
we declare July 2026 as Park and Recreation Month in the State
7
of Illinois to celebrate the dedicated agencies' locally
8
elected commissioners, professionals, and volunteers whose
9
work enhances the quality of life for millions of Illinois
10
residents and underscores the power of parks and recreation to
11
build healthier, more connected, and more resilient
12
communities.
