HOUSE RESOLUTION
2
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives wish to congratulate Police Chief Adam Yates
4
of the Quincy Police Department on the occasion of his
5
retirement after an extraordinary career in law enforcement;
6
and
7
WHEREAS, A native of Quincy, Chief Yates joined the Quincy
8
Police Department in 1999, and he was appointed Chief of the
9
Quincy Police Department in June 2022; and
10
WHEREAS, Prior to his law enforcement career, Chief Yates
11
served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps for
12
four years; and
13
WHEREAS, Chief Yates earned an associate's degree in law
14
enforcement from John Wood Community College and a bachelor's
15
degree in law enforcement and justice administration from
16
Western Illinois University; and
17
WHEREAS, Chief Yates graduated from the Northwestern
18
University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff &
19
Command Class #485 and from the Federal Bureau of
20
Investigation Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar
21
Session #82; and

WHEREAS, Chief Yates became a Certified Police Chief
2
through the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Voluntary
3
Police Chief Certification Program; and
4
WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Chief Yates has completed
5
a variety of assignments, including patrol officer, field
6
training officer, street crimes unit officer, criminal and
7
youth detective, patrol sergeant, administrative services
8
sergeant, and deputy chief of administration; and
9
WHEREAS, In addition to his primary assignments, Chief
10
Yates has also served as an active shooter tactical response
11
instructor, a firearms instructor, a control and arrest
12
tactics instructor, and a commander of the Quincy Police
13
Department's Crisis Response Unit; and
14
WHEREAS, Over the course of his successful career, Chief
15
Yates has made a lasting impact not only on the Quincy Police
16
Department but on the entire City of Quincy; therefore, be it
17
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19
we congratulate Police Chief Adam Yates of the Quincy Police
20
Department on the occasion of his retirement, thank him for
21
his service to his community and the State of Illinois, and

wish him the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
2
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3
presented to Chief Yates as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
