HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Civility is essential to fostering respectful
3
dialogue, mutual understanding, and meaningful engagement
4
within educational institutions and communities across the
5
State of Illinois; and

6

WHEREAS, Institutions of higher education serve an
7
important role in preparing students to engage thoughtfully
8
and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds,
9
perspectives, and experiences; and

10

WHEREAS, Acts of civility strengthen communities by
11
encouraging cooperation, reducing division, and inspiring
12
civic engagement and community leadership; and

13

WHEREAS, South Suburban College is committed to promoting
14
an inclusive culture grounded in respect, empathy,
15
collaboration, and constructive communication; and

16

WHEREAS, South Suburban College will host a series of
17
activities, programs, discussions, and educational initiatives
18
during the month of August in recognition of Civility Month,
19
designed to encourage kindness, respectful discourse, and
20
community connection; and

WHEREAS, Civility Month activities at South Suburban
2
College will provide students, faculty, staff, and community
3
members with opportunities to engage in conversations and
4
experiences that promote understanding, leadership, service,
5
and responsible citizenship; and

WHEREAS, South Suburban College remains dedicated to
7
empowering students and strengthening communities through
8
education, engagement, and the advancement of a culture of
9
respect and inclusion; therefore, be it

10

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12
we declare August 2026 as Civility Month in the State of
13
Illinois, and we commend South Suburban College for its
14
commitment to promoting respectful dialogue, civic engagement,
15
inclusion, and community-building throughout the Southland
16
region; and be it further

17

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18
presented to South Suburban College as a symbol of our respect
19
and esteem.
