HOUSE RESOLUTION
2
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3
Representatives wish to congratulate the girls volleyball
4
program at St. Mary School in Riverside for excellence in
5
youth athletics, which fosters teamwork, dedication,
6
leadership, and community pride; and
7
WHEREAS, The St. Mary School 6th grade girls volleyball
8
team captured first place in the Classic League and was
9
crowned the 2026 season champions; and
10
WHEREAS, The championship-winning 6th grade roster is
11
filled with an outstanding group of student-athletes,
12
including Luciana Acosta (#1), Elaina Kos (#2), Sophia
13
Martinez (#4), Maddie Poggiani (#6), Mariana Benitez (#9),
14
Lillian Moreno (#10), Mia Scheuerman (#12), Elise Trocki
15
(#13), Shelagh Marhoul (#14), Nora Faust (#16), and Julii
16
Carrera (#23); and
17
WHEREAS, The 6th grade team reached these incredible
18
heights under the strategic guidance, leadership, and
19
encouragement of Coach Dina Acosta and Coach Ted Kos; and
20
WHEREAS, The success of the 6th grade squad is reflective
21
of a remarkably strong, school-wide volleyball program that

saw its 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade teams combine to bring
2
home an amazing total of eight trophies to St. Mary School this
3
season; every level of the program excelled, achieving a
4
second-place trophy, first-place league finishes, and
5
championship victories through immense hard work and heart;
6
and
7
WHEREAS, This unforgettable season was made possible by
8
the collective efforts of the entire coaching staff, including
9
5th-grade coaches Jamie DeNapoli and Michaela Faust, 7th-grade
10
coaches Lucia Roden and Nicole Hayes, and 8th-grade coaches
11
Libby Hudson and Daisy Nevarez; and
12
WHEREAS, Special recognition is due to Volleyball Director
13
Lucia Roden, whose exceptional organization, tireless
14
dedication, and love for St. Mary School volleyball shaped a
15
successful environment for all players, coaches, and families;
16
therefore, be it
17
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19
we congratulate the St. Mary School 6th Grade Girls Volleyball
20
Team on winning the 2026 Classic League Season Championship,
21
commend the entire St. Mary volleyball program on an
22
outstanding and historic season, and extend our best wishes to
23
the athletes, coaches, and administration for continued

success in all future endeavors; and be it further
2
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3
presented to the St. Mary Catholic School administration, the
4
coaching staff, and the championship 6th-grade players as an
