HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Philanthropic Educational Organization
3
(P.E.O.) was founded by a pioneering group of young women in
4
Mount Pleasant, Iowa in January 1869 with the goal of
5
supporting each other throughout educational challenges and
6
experiences; and

7

WHEREAS, P.E.O. International, also known as the P.E.O.
8
Sisterhood, is now a global network of more than 129,000
9
members supporting educational assistance for women pursuing a
10
variety of higher education opportunities around the world;
11
and

12

WHEREAS, P.E.O. International had generated approximately
13
$462 million in educational assistance and scholar awards as
14
of July 2025, making a difference for thousands of young women
15
faced with the ever-increasing costs of education and
16
scholarship; and

17

WHEREAS, P.E.O. International includes more than 5,400
18
local chapters across North America; and

19

WHEREAS, Illinois Chapter CE was organized by members of
20
the P.E.O. Sisterhood in Savanna on December 9, 1926; and

WHEREAS, Illinois Chapter CE celebrates its 100th
2
anniversary as a supporter of scholarships, grants, awards,
3
student loans, continuing education, and other resources for
4
women in 2026; and

5

WHEREAS, At the 123rd Illinois P.E.O. Convention, Chapter
6
CE was recognized for its approaching anniversary; and

7

WHEREAS, Photographed for this recognition and honor were
8
Illinois Chapter CE members Julane Bowman, Jan Schoening,
9
LeeAnn Michaels, Char Daehler, Gloria Miner, Diane Smith,
10
Bonnie Davies, Kathy Meador, Peggie Daniels, and Debbie
11
McColley; and

12

WHEREAS, While all members of the Sisterhood are equal in
13
honor, the member in the photograph shown carrying the wand
14
signifying Illinois Chapter CE identity is Jan Schoening, a
15
beloved retired math teacher who inspired eighth graders at
16
West Carroll Middle School; therefore, be it

17

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18
HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19
we congratulate P.E.O. Illinois Chapter CE on its 100th
20
anniversary on December 9, 2026; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we wish Illinois Chapter CE another century

of support for women's aspirations around America and the

world; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to

Jan Schoening of Savanna with equal respect to all of members

of Illinois Chapter CE.
