AN ACT concerning State government.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3
represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5.
The State Fire Marshal Act is amended by
5
changing Section 5 as follows:

Sec. 5.
Tracking firefighter mortality.
Beginning no later
10
than 6 months after
January 1, 2026 (
the effective date of
11
Public Act 104-102)

this amendatory Act of the 104th General
12
Assembly
,
all fire departments and units of local government
13
that provide fire protection services in this State shall
14
report the death of any firefighter employed by the fire
15
department or unit of local government to the Office of the
16
State Fire Marshal. The information reported to the Office
17
shall include the cause and manner of death, including, but
18
not limited to, any deaths resulting from suicide and the
19
various types of cancer. If a firefighter separates from a
20
fire department or unit of local government with a known
21
cancer diagnosis and succumbs to that cancer within 12 months
22
after separation, the fire department or unit of local
23
government shall report the death to the Office. The
