SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
730 ILCS 5/3-2-14
730 ILCS 5/3-2-14.5 new
Amends the Unified Code of Corrections. Provides that the Illinois
Law Enforcement Training Standards Board and the Director of Corrections
shall approve and shall issue concealed carry cards to all current and
retired correctional officers that shall authorize the current or retired
correctional officer to carry a concealed firearm off duty. Provides that
the Director shall implement annual range qualification days for retirees
to maintain their concealed carry cards. Provides that these range dates
shall be offered no less than once per month, every month and may include
weekends. Provides that the Director may charge a range fee of no more than
$30 from each retiree for annual qualification. Provides that the proceeds
from these fees shall be used to improve institutional firearms range
facilities and training Department correctional officers. Provides that
the Department of Corrections shall issue a retiree identification card to
all employees at the conclusion of their employment at the Department of
Corrections. Establishes information that must be placed on the cards.

AN ACT concerning criminal law.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3
represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5.
The Unified Code of Corrections is amended by
5
changing Section 3-2-14 and by adding Section 3-2-14.5 as
6
follows:

(730 ILCS 5/3-2-14)

Sec. 3-2-14.
Correctional officers of the Department of
9
Corrections; coverage under the federal Law Enforcement
10
Officers Safety Act of 2004.
Correctional officers of the
11
Department of Corrections shall be deemed to be qualified law
12
enforcement officers or, for retired correctional officers of
13
the Department of Corrections, shall be deemed qualified
14
retired or separated law enforcement officers in Illinois for
15
purposes of coverage under the federal Law Enforcement
16
Officers Safety Act of 2004 and shall have all rights and
17
privileges granted by that Act if the correctional officer or
18
retired correctional officer is otherwise compliant with the
19
applicable laws of this State governing the implementation and
20
administration of the federal Law Enforcement Officers Safety
21
Act of 2004 in the State of Illinois.
The Illinois Law

Sec. 3-2-14.5.
Retiree identification card.
The Department
15
of Corrections shall issue a retiree identification card to
16
all employees at the conclusion of their employment at the
17
Department of Corrections. The retiree identification card
18
shall include, at a minimum, the following information on the
19
front of the identification card:
20
(1) a current photo at the time of retirement. The photo
21
shall show the correctional officer in uniform with rank
22
insignias and badge displayed;
23
(2) the employee's name;
24
(3) the employee's payroll title and rank if applicable;

(4) the Department of Corrections seal and name.

Section 99.
Effective date.
This Act takes effect upon
3
becoming law.
