SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

New Act

Creates the Illinois Educational Choice for Children Act. Provides
that on or before January 1, 2027 and annually thereafter, the Governor
shall submit to the United States Secretary of the Treasury a list of
scholarship granting organizations to opt-in to the federal school choice
program under the federal Educational Choice for Children Act. Allows the
Governor to develop the list of scholarship granting organizations in
consultation with other appropriate State agencies. Requires the
submission of the list of scholarship granting organizations to be in
compliance with the Internal Revenue Code. Requires the Governor to send a
copy of the list of scholarship granting organization to the General
Assembly, the State Board of Education, and the Department of Revenue.
Effective immediately.

AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

Section 1.
Short title.
This Act may be cited as the
5
Illinois Educational Choice for Children Act.

Section 5.
Opt-in to federal Educational Choice for
7
Children Act.
On or before January 1, 2027 and annually
8
thereafter, the Governor shall submit to the United States
9
Secretary of the Treasury a list of scholarship granting
10
organizations to opt-in to the federal school choice program
11
under the federal Educational Choice for Children Act. The
12
Governor may develop the list of scholarship granting
13
organizations in consultation with other appropriate State
14
agencies. The submission of the list of scholarship granting
15
organizations shall be in compliance with Section 25F of the
16
Internal Revenue Code. The Governor shall send a copy of the
17
list of scholarship granting organization to the General
18
Assembly, the State Board of Education, and the Department of
19
Revenue.

Section 99.
Effective date.
This Act takes effect upon
21
becoming law.
