SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3
Assembly pays honor and respect to truly great individuals who
4
have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
5
ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and

6

WHEREAS, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher B. Donaldson,
7
the son of Bill and Lynne Laue Donaldson, was born in Effingham
8
on May 17, 1977; and

9

WHEREAS, CW2 Donaldson graduated from Effingham High
10
School in 1995; and

11

WHEREAS, CW2 Donaldson enlisted in the U.S. Army on
12
September 12, 1997, becoming a pilot and rising to the rank of
13
chief warrant officer 2; and

14

WHEREAS, CW2 Donaldson completed tours in Korea and
15
Germany before serving with the 10th Mountain Division during
16
Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in 2006; and

17

WHEREAS, CW2 Donaldson was killed in a helicopter crash
18
while on a rescue mission in the Kunar Province of Afghanistan
19
on May 5, 2006; and

WHEREAS, CW2 Donaldson was awarded the Bronze Star, the
2
Air Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the
3
Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, the
4
NATO Medal, two Army Commendation Medals, the Army Good
5
Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the
6
Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, the
7
Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, the Expert
8
Marksmanship Qualification Badge for grenade, and the
9
Sharpshooter Badge for rifle; therefore, be it

10

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
11
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
12
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the
13
Fourth Street Interstates 57 and 70 Overpass in Effingham as
14
the "Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher Donaldson Memorial
15
Overpass"; and be it further

16

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
17
is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
18
State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
19
giving notice of the name "Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher
20
Donaldson Memorial Overpass"; and be it further

21

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
22
presented to the family of CW2 Donaldson, the Mayor of
23
Effingham, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
