SENATE RESOLUTION
2
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3
congratulate Project Compassion, NFP on the occasion of its
4
20-year anniversary; and
5
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 2005, Project Compassion
6
has provided vital support to more than 200,000 homeless,
7
disadvantaged, and low-income men, women, and children through
8
providing access to food, shelter, seasonal supplies, hygiene
9
items, life skills workshops, self-esteem and character
10
development initiatives, and vocational training programs; and
11
WHEREAS, Project Compassion opened the Compassionate
12
Resource Center in Belleville in 2011, an achievement that
13
expanded the organization's capacity to serve the community
14
through offering a free cafe, a laundry facility, and a
15
therapy center focused on nonviolent trauma and
16
trauma-informed care; and
17
WHEREAS, During the 2020 pandemic, Project Compassion
18
launched Meal Time, an emergency meal initiative that provided
19
hot meals to 15,000 families and partnered with 15 community
20
organizations and churches to feed more than 30,000
21
individuals across the region; and

WHEREAS, Project Compassion was founded by Rachel Jackson,
2
who also established Empower-Me, the first self-esteem and
3
self-worth program in St. Clair County; through partnerships
4
with local school districts, the program inspires youth,
5
especially girls, to build inner confidence, character, and a
6
foundation for continued education; she has further extended
7
this mission as host of the Girlz On Purpose Tour, empowering
8
young women to lead with purpose and passion; and
9
WHEREAS, Project Compassion has received numerous local
10
and national honors in recognition of the organization's
11
service and impact, including the Barack Obama Silver
12
Presidential Award for Community Service and a proclamation
13
from the Mayor of Belleville in 2014 officially designating
14
October 29th as Compassion Day; therefore, be it
15
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
16
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate
17
Project Compassion, NFP on achieving 20 years of providing
18
unrelenting dedication and love to those in the community who
19
need it most, and we wish the organization many more years of
20
continued success; and be it further
21
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22
presented to Project Compassion as an expression of our esteem
23
and respect.
