SENATE RESOLUTION
2
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Minister George H. Scott Jr. of
4
Rockford, who passed away on January 17, 2026; and
5
WHEREAS, Minister Scott was president of the Rockford
6
branch of the NAACP; his life was a testament to perseverance,
7
excellence, and an unwavering commitment to justice and
8
community empowerment; he was a driving force for progress,
9
working tirelessly to build a more equitable world; and
10
WHEREAS, Minister Scott was born to George H. Scott Sr.
11
and Helen Scott on August 9, 1962; after attending Haskell
12
Elementary School, his athletic abilities began to soar at
13
Roosevelt Middle School, where he set record times in the
14
400-yard dash; his dedication to sports continued at West High
15
School, where he excelled in football and track; after earning
16
his associate's degree from Rock Valley College, he majored in
17
philosophy and religion at Stillman College and distinguished
18
himself as a Freeland Scholar for his commitment to
19
intellectual exploration; he earned his master's degree and
20
doctorate at GMOR Theological Institute; and
21
WHEREAS, Minister Scott devoted 35 years to a
22
distinguished career at Stellantis, where he served in

management across multiple departments and shaped operations
2
with his expertise and innovative leadership, earning the
3
lasting respect of his colleagues; and
4
WHEREAS, Minister Scott was a pillar of the Rockford
5
community, becoming president of the Rockford branch of the
6
NAACP in 2022 and presiding over 18 committees dedicated to
7
fighting injustice; his leadership drove significant
8
initiatives, including the organization of Black history
9
events at the historic Coronado Theatre, the City-Wide Unity
10
Picnic at Levings Park, and the Race Summit; he helped
11
establish a credit union to empower residents financially,
12
pushed for the planting of community gardens to ensure access
13
to fresh food for all, and was actively working at the time of
14
his death to bring a mobile grocery to underserved areas; and
15
WHEREAS, Minister Scott was a family man at heart and a
16
devoted husband, father, and grandfather; his legacy of love,
17
resilience, and advocacy will continue to inspire his family;
18
and
19
WHEREAS, Minister Scott was preceded in death by his
20
parents and his first wife, Rosalia Day-Scott; and
21
WHEREAS, Minister Scott is survived by his wife, Angela
22
Scott; his children, George H. Scott III, Dejanae, and

Isabella; his four grandchildren; his brothers, Jay Macklin,
2
David E. Scott Sr., and Randy (Patricia) Scott Sr.; his
3
sisters, Lia D. (Anthony) Curry and Melissa Scott; his special
4
family member, Jasmanee Cook; and a host of relatives,
5
friends, and community members whose lives he touched;
6
therefore, be it
7
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
8
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9
Minister George H. Scott Jr. and extend our sincere
10
condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
11
him; and be it further
12
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13
presented to the family of Minister Scott as an expression of
14
our deepest sympathy.
