SENATE RESOLUTION

2

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Eddie Joseph Godwin; and

4

WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin was born to Edward and Edra Godwin
5
on September 5, 1943; he had the gift of working with his hands
6
and studied bricklaying at Dunbar High School; he married
7
Valerie Tucker; and

8

WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin became a union mason and earned a
9
reputation as one of the best in the City of Chicago; he worked
10
with Lloyd Moore of Moore Construction Company and later
11
served the Chicago Park District; he ultimately retired from
12
the City of Chicago Department of Transportation after years
13
of dedicated service; and

14

WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin was affectionately know as
15
"Bedrock", a nickname he earned from his favorite pastime,
16
watching TV; he was passionate and highly opinionated,
17
especially about the topics that mattered most to him,
18
politics, history, and sports; his bricklaying career was part
19
of his calling and, as a young man, he built his parents'
20
garage; later in his life, he built the garage at the building
21
where he lived; and

WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin loved his family and was deeply
2
involved in their lives; he took pride in being present,
3
supporting their goals, showing up for what mattered, and
4
making sure his loved ones knew they could count on him; and

5

WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin was preceded in death by his
6
siblings, Edward Jr., John, and Lorraine, and his grandson,
7
Clarence; and

8

WHEREAS, Eddie Godwin is survived by his wife, Valerie
9
Godwin; his daughters, Alderman Michelle (John) Harris, Zina
10
Marshall, Corthenia Davis, Yolanda Tucker, Shonda (Kevin)
11
Tucker, and Ashley Tillman; his grandchildren, Loren, Marshon,
12
John, DeVoe, Frederick, Alexus, Tyler, Cornelius Jr., Yaseen,
13
and Skylar; his nieces, Yolanda and Mia; his nephew, John
14
Godwin Jr.; and numerous cousins and extended family members;
15
therefore, be it

16

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
17
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18
Eddie Joseph Godwin and extend our sincere condolences to his
19
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20
further

21

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22
presented to the family of Eddie Godwin as a symbol of our
