SENATE RESOLUTION

2

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Christian Jon "CJ" Law, who passed
4
away on December 14, 2025; and

5

WHEREAS, CJ Law, the son of Demetrius and LaTanya Law, was
6
born on January 8, 2002; from a young age, his love for animals
7
was evident as he lovingly cared for a bearded dragon, a cat,
8
and his dog, Wheatie; he also possessed a passion for
9
athletics, earning USATF National Junior Olympics Indoor
10
All-American honors in the 400-meter race in 2016 and
11
competing with distinction for the Zephyrs Track Club, the St.
12
Rita High School football team, and the Tinley Park High
13
School track and field team, where he was part of the school's
14
first-ever qualifying 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams; and

15

WHEREAS, CJ Law earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal
16
and Veterinary Sciences from Tuskegee University, where he was
17
a member of the football team, earned SIAC All-Academic
18
Honors, and became a legacy member of Kappa Alpha Psi
19
Fraternity, Inc., Gamma Epsilon Chapter, in 2022; during his
20
college career, he was recognized as a Pre-Vet Med Scholar and
21
an honors student, and he worked at VCA Animal Hospital, the
22
Tuskegee Biology Laboratory, and the Tuskegee University Farm;
23
and

WHEREAS, CJ Law participated in the Vet Up! program at
2
Purdue University, where his groundbreaking research on
3
Alzheimer's disease in chimpanzees earned him the award for
4
Best Capstone Project, and he completed the qualifications to
5
receive his certification in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
6
in Veterinary Medicine; he conducted significant research and
7
earned clinical experiences at the University of Florida,
8
Purdue University, and the United States Department of
9
Agriculture (USDA); he contributed to important studies on
10
dairy cow nutrition, immune response, and heat stress
11
tolerance, assisted in diagnostics and surgical procedures,
12
and gained extensive experience in USDA food safety and
13
compliance; most recently, he pursued studies at Ross
14
University School of Veterinary Medicine; and

15

WHEREAS, CJ Law was an adventurer at heart who embraced
16
life with enthusiasm and curiosity while welcoming new
17
experiences, including surfing and parasailing, with joy and
18
fearlessness; and

19

WHEREAS, CJ Law was kind, disciplined, thoughtful, and
20
deeply devoted to his family; he lived quietly but powerfully,
21
inspiring others through his work ethic, integrity, and
22
generous spirit, and his life will serve as a testament to
23
faith, perseverance, and purpose; and

WHEREAS, CJ Law was preceded in death by his father,
2
Demetrius Law; his grandmother, PeCola Law; and his
3
grandfathers, Jon Law and De Armond Mathews; and

4

WHEREAS, CJ Law is survived by his mother, LaTanya Law;
5
his brother, William Caldwell; his grandmother, Rhonda "Nana"
6
Mathews; his uncles, De Armond (Courtney) Mathews Jr. and
7
Ber'Tram Law Jr.; his aunts, DeMeica Mathews and Ouidie
8
Pollard; his godmother, Senator Kimberly A. Lightford; his
9
bonus father, Honorable Consul Michael Fountain; and a vast
10
community of family, friends, mentors, and brothers;
11
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
13
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14
Christian Jon "CJ" Law and extend our sincere condolences to
15
his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16
further

17

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18
presented to the family of CJ Law as an expression of our
19
deepest sympathy.
