SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3
congratulate Proviso East High School of Maywood on the
4
occasion of receiving a Commendable designation by the
5
Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) two years in a row;
6
and

7

WHEREAS, Proviso East High School, founded in 1910 and
8
home of the Pirates, currently serves students from the
9
surrounding communities of Broadview, Forest Park, Maywood,
10
and Melrose; and

11

WHEREAS, Proviso East High School has steadily risen from
12
receiving a Comprehensive designation by the ISBE, marking it
13
as one of the bottom 5% of schools in the State, to receiving a
14
Targeted designation three years ago before earning a
15
Commendable designation the last two years; and

16

WHEREAS, Proviso East High School has seen its graduation
17
rates increase more than 10%, with the rate of its ninth-grade
18
students being on track to graduate on time increasing by 20%,
19
and the school has also had its truancy rates decline by nearly
20
20%; and

21

WHEREAS, Proviso East High School has undergone this

resurgence in educational quality and reputation through the
2
collective efforts and dedication of Principal Rodney Hull,
3
his team, and the students themselves; and

4

WHEREAS, Proviso East High School will be honored for its
5
many accomplishments at a community dinner hosted by Village
6
of Maywood Mayor George Booker, the Village Board of Trustees,
7
and Healthy Maywood West Cook partners on February 5, 2026;
8
therefore, be it

9

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
10
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate
11
Proviso East High School on earning a Commendable designation
12
by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) two years in a
13
row, and we wish its staff and students continued success; and
14
be it further

15

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16
presented to Principal Rodney Hull of Proviso East High School
17
as an expression of our esteem and respect.
