SENATE RESOLUTION
2
WHEREAS, The rate of unintentional injuries and deaths in
3
the United States remains at unacceptable levels; and
4
WHEREAS, Preparing for emergencies, mitigating falls,
5
preventing heat-related illness, and recognizing hazards
6
remain critical to preventing injuries and deaths in the
7
United States; and
8
WHEREAS, The cost of unintentional injuries to workers and
9
their employers exceeds $176.5 billion each year and causes
10
great suffering among individuals and their families; and
11
WHEREAS, Illinois residents and all workers deserve to
12
live in communities that promote safe and healthy living; and
13
WHEREAS, Preventing unintentional injuries and deaths
14
requires the cooperation of all levels of government,
15
employers, and the general public; and
16
WHEREAS, The National Safety Council, founded in 1913, was
17
congressionally chartered in 1953 to lead this nation in
18
injury prevention through safety and health information,
19
education, training, and advocacy in the United States; and

WHEREAS, The National Safety Council and the Iowa-Illinois
2
Safety Council work to promote policies, practices, and
3
procedures that lead to increased safety, protection, and
4
health in business and industry, in schools and colleges, on
5
roads and highways, and in homes and communities; and
6
WHEREAS, The summer season is a time of increased rates of
7
unintentional injuries and deaths and is an appropriate time
8
to focus attention on injury risks and prevention; therefore,
9
be it
10
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
11
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our support
12
for National Safety Month in June 2026 and strongly urge the
13
citizens and businesses of Illinois to observe National Safety
14
Month by practicing safe and healthy behaviors in all aspects
15
of their lives.
