SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Ofelia Giselle "Ofe" Torres Hidalgo of
4
Chicago, who passed away on February 13, 2026; and

5

WHEREAS, Ofe Torres Hidalgo, born on April 12, 2009, was a
6
junior at Lakeview High School in Chicago, where she was known
7
for her academic presence and her fierce spirit of compassion;
8
and

9

WHEREAS, Ofe Torres Hidalgo had been most recently
10
dedicating her efforts towards establishing a cancer awareness
11
club at her school, a mission born from her desire to provide
12
support and a louder voice for children navigating their own
13
brave battles; and

14

WHEREAS, Ofe Torres Hidalgo, at just 16 years old, left an
15
indelible mark on the hearts of everyone she met, teaching all
16
the true meaning of grace and advocacy; and

17

WHEREAS, Ofe Torres Hidalgo was a cherished daughter, a
18
loving and protective sister, a dear granddaughter, a
19
treasured niece, and a beloved girlfriend who possessed a soul
20
of rare beauty, kindness, selflessness, and courage; and

WHEREAS, Ofe Torres Hidalgo was the daughter of Sandibell
2
Hidalgo and Ruben Torres; the sister of Nathan Axel Torres
3
Hidalgo; the girlfriend of Alexis Soriano; the granddaughter
4
of Lucrecia Herrera and the late Ofelia and Ruben Torres; the
5
niece of Abigail, Eneida, Hury, Cervando, Rutila, Miriam,
6
Giovanni, Humberto, Joulisa, Lucy, Alex, Valdemar, Tony, Yari,
7
Jorge, Pablo, Martin, Lourdes, Vicky, Ubert, Baldo, Samantha,
8
and Alexis; the student and friend of Valerie Wadycki; and the
9
cousin and friend of many; therefore, be it

10

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
11
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12
Ofelia Giselle "Ofe" Torres Hidalgo and extend our sincere
13
condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
14
her; and be it further

15

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16
presented to the family of Ofe Torres Hidalgo as an expression
17
of our deepest sympathy.
