SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of John Henry Jordan, Ed.D, who passed
4
away on February 15, 2026; and

5

WHEREAS, John Jordan was born to Ordella and Eugene Jordan
6
in Waynesboro, Mississippi on January 17, 1943; he attended
7
Chapel Hill Elementary School, and he graduated from Riverview
8
High School in 1960; he received a Bachelor of Science in
9
Elementary Education from Tennessee State University in 1964,
10
a Master of Science in Elementary Education from Olivet
11
Nazarene College in 1972, and a Doctor of Education in Adult
12
and Continuing Education from the University of Sarasota in
13
1977; and

14

WHEREAS, John Jordan served as a teacher, a coach, an
15
assistant principal, a businessman, a television host, an
16
author, and a mentor to many; he was noted for executing these
17
roles with distinction and grace, and his name became
18
well-known throughout the communities of Waynesboro,
19
Mississippi and Kankakee and Springfield, Illinois; and

20

WHEREAS, John Jordan lived a life defined by purpose,
21
leadership, and an unwavering commitment to others; he was
22
always attentive to opportunities to encourage, empower, and

elevate those around him, and he nurtured others by always
2
offering them wisdom and warmth; and

3

WHEREAS, John Jordan is survived by his wife of 33 years,
4
Gloria Jordan; his brother, Jimmie Jordan; his children, Karla
5
Runnells, Jan (Jess) Gathing, and Roderick Jordan; four
6
grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
7
godchildren, and friends; therefore, be it

8

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
9
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10
John Henry Jordan, Ed.D, and extend our sincere condolences to
11
his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12
further

13

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14
presented to the family of John Jordan as an expression of our
15
deepest sympathy.
