SENATE RESOLUTION
2
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Dominic Constantino Giacomini of
4
Springfield, who passed away on February 19, 2026; and
5
WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini was born to Domenic J. and Rose
6
Mary (Scaduto) Giacomini in Springfield on April 24, 1934; he
7
was raised in Springfield and graduated from St. Agnes Grade
8
School and Cathedral Boys High School; he served in the United
9
States Army during the Korean Conflict; he attended Bradley
10
University and graduated from Western Illinois University; he
11
earned his Master of Public Administration from the University
12
of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; and
13
WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini served as coach of the women's
14
tennis program, the Prairie Stars, at Sangamon State
15
University (SSU), known today as the University of Illinois
16
Springfield (UIS), for 16 seasons from 1991 to 2007; under his
17
direction, the Prairie Stars won 177 matches and secured eight
18
regional titles from the National Association of
19
Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and he coached 23 academic
20
scholar-athletes as well as all-American and SSU/UIS Hall of
21
Famer Carla Jimenez during his tenure; in recognition of his
22
work and impact, he was inducted into the second class of the
23
UIS Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015; and

WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini, prior to SSU/UIS, served as a
2
volunteer tennis coach at Ursuline Academy, where he began
3
coaching in 1978 and led the team to three state tournaments in
4
five years, and he coached tennis at Lincoln Land Community
5
College for seven seasons; and
6
WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini and his wife also hosted the
7
Giacomini Tennis Academy every summer for more than 35 years,
8
a program that continues to this day at the YMCA; more
9
recently, he and his family helped run a summer YMCA camp with
10
the support of several UIS tennis student-athletes; and
11
WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini, outside of tennis, worked for
12
the Illinois Department of Transportation - Urban Planning for
13
32 years, retiring in 1991; he and his family ran, expanded,
14
and incorporated Giacomini Parking in the Springfield Medical
15
District, and he was also part of the family wedding video
16
business; and
17
WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini was a faithful member of
18
Blessed Sacrament Church, and he was a member of the Sangamon
19
County Regional Planning Commission; and
20
WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini, known for his selflessness,
21
was a committed family man who loved spending time with his

children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren during pasta
2
dinners, Lake Springfield events, family workdays, and holiday
3
gatherings; and
4
WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini was preceded in death by his
5
parents; his teenage brother, Paul Giacomini; and his baby
6
sister, Patricia Giacomini; and
7
WHEREAS, Dominic Giacomini is survived by his wife,
8
Patricia "Pat" Giacomini, who he married in 1959; his
9
children, Patrick (Debbie) Giacomini, Christine "Kay" (Steve)
10
McClimans, Tom (Erin) Giacomini, Michelle (Greg) Williamson,
11
Lisa (the late Jim) Giacomini-Fay, Angie (Mike) Walsh, and
12
Nick (Danielle) Giacomini; 25 grandchildren; ten
13
great-grandchildren, with three more on the way; and many
14
special cousins, nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it
15
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
16
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17
Dominic Constantino Giacomini and extend our sincere
18
condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
19
him; and be it further
20
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21
presented to the family of Dominic Giacomini as an expression
22
of our deepest sympathy.
