SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is home to a vibrant and
3
diverse community of residents, representing cultures,
4
traditions, and faiths from around the world; and

5

WHEREAS, Holi, known as the "Festival of Colors", is a
6
traditional Indian holiday celebrated by millions of people in
7
India and across the global diaspora; and

8

WHEREAS, Holi marks the arrival of spring and symbolizes
9
renewal, unity, love, and the triumph of good over evil; and

10

WHEREAS, Celebrating Holi brings together families,
11
friends, and neighbors in a spirit of joy, forgiveness, and
12
community through cultural traditions that include music,
13
food, and the sharing of vibrant colors; and

14

WHEREAS, The Indian American community has made
15
significant contributions to the cultural, economic,
16
educational, and civic life of Illinois; and

17

WHEREAS, Recognizing cultural observances such as Holi
18
promotes cross-cultural understanding, strengthens community
19
bonds, and affirms Illinois' commitment to inclusion and
20
mutual respect; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
2
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare March 5,
3
2026 as Holi Day in the State of Illinois; and be it further

4

RESOLVED, That we encourage residents to acknowledge and
5
celebrate the rich traditions and enduring contributions of
6
the Indian American community throughout our State.
