SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3
recognize Detective Michael Griffin of the Moline Police
4
Department Criminal Investigations unit for his unrelenting
5
commitment to pursuing justice in the 1996 disappearance of
6
11-year-old Trudy Appleby; and

7

WHEREAS, Trudy Appleby was last seen near her family's
8
residence in East Moline on August 21, 1996; and

9

WHEREAS, Over almost three decades, the Quad Cities
10
refused to let Trudy Appleby's case go cold, with family,
11
friends, and community members hosting annual candlelight
12
vigils on the anniversary of her disappearance and sponsoring
13
billboards bearing her image to keep continued attention on
14
the case; and

15

WHEREAS, Through the tireless work by investigators over
16
the decades since the disappearance of Trudy Appleby and in
17
congruence with the unwavering support of the community and
18
the gathering of new pieces of information, an arrest has been
19
made in the case, which has been under Det. Griffin's
20
leadership; and

21

WHEREAS, A grand jury in Henry County indicted a subject

for the murder of Trudy Appleby on August 13, 2025, and he
2
faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of
3
concealment of a homicidal death; and

4

WHEREAS, Thanks to the dedication, skill, and persistence
5
of Det. Griffin and his fellow Moline Police Department
6
officers, Trudy Appleby's family and friends are one step
7
closer to achieving answers and justice; therefore, be it

8

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
9
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Detective
10
Michael Griffin of the Moline Police Department Criminal
11
Investigations unit for his unrelenting commitment to pursuing
12
justice in the 1996 disappearance of 11-year-old Trudy
13
Appleby, and we thank Det. Griffin and the Moline Police
14
Department for their continued service and dedication towards
15
protecting residents and solving cases; and be it further

16

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17
presented to Det. Griffin as an expression of our esteem and
18
respect.
