SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Scott McFarland of Moline, who passed
4
away on August 2, 2025; and

5

WHEREAS, Scott McFarland, the son of Donald and Karla
6
(Pollack) McFarland, was born on August 10, 1983; he achieved
7
the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts; he married his wife,
8
Amber, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Quad
9
Cities in Davenport, Iowa on August 23, 2008; and

10

WHEREAS, For more than a decade, Scott McFarland led the
11
Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community
12
Service (Serve Illinois), a 40-member, bipartisan board
13
appointed by the Governor and administered by the Illinois
14
Department of Human Services to strengthen communities through
15
volunteerism, national service, and recognition; during his
16
tenure, he was noted for caring deeply about the grant
17
programs he administered and all the people behind those
18
programs; and

19

WHEREAS, Scott McFarland was a passionate advocate for
20
education and volunteerism; as an elected member of the
21
Springfield School District 186 Board of Education, he pursued
22
initiatives that he felt would improve the lives of all

children in the district; at the start of the COVID-19
2
pandemic, he organized a mutual aid group on Facebook,
3
Springfield Families Helping Families, which expanded its
4
membership to 32.2k under his guidance; and

5

WHEREAS, Scott McFarland was also fiercely political,
6
reveling in debating online or in person, and he loved his time
7
in Model Illinois Government, where he made lifelong friends;
8
he also held interests in the Chicago Cubs, Star Trek, Marvel,
9
the Less Than Jake band, Ghostbusters, the musical Hamilton,
10
and his podcast; and

11

WHEREAS, Scott McFarland loved his children, Anastasia,
12
Addison, and Clark, with every fiber of his being; he was proud
13
of their accomplishments and enjoyed partaking in different
14
activities with them, such as volunteering for events with
15
Anastasia, going on walks on the I-74 bridge with Addison, and
16
watching Transformers and Godzilla with Clark; and

17

WHEREAS, Scott McFarland was preceded in death by his
18
aunt, Jennifer Pollack; his maternal grandparents, Sharon and
19
Joseph Pollack; his paternal grandparents, Donald and Diane
20
McFarland; and his dog, Cody; and

21

WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Scott McFarland was
22
survived by his wife; his children; his brothers, Craig (Zoey)

McFarland and Ryan McFarland; his nephew, Liam McFarland; and
2
his cousin, Jonathan Pollack; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
4
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5
Scott McFarland and extend our sincere condolences to his
6
family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
7
further

8

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9
presented to the family of Scott McFarland as an expression of
10
our deepest sympathy.
