SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Raymond Alfred "Ray" Scheiter Jr. of
4
Quincy, formerly of Golden, who passed away on March 16, 2026;
5
and

6

WHEREAS, Ray Scheiter was born to Raymond "Red" Sr. and
7
Laverta "Sis" Macomber Scheiter in Quincy on July 23, 1936; he
8
graduated from Quincy High School in 1954, where he was a
9
qualifying participant in state wrestling and was named most
10
valuable wrestler his senior year; and

11

WHEREAS, Ray Scheiter worked at Indian Mounds Pool during
12
high school and was awarded the certificate of merit for
13
saving a man's life; although he excelled in wrestling,
14
football was the sport that earned him a college scholarship
15
to Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, where he
16
lettered all four years as right tackle, both on offense and
17
defense; he was the first of his family to attend college and
18
graduated with a degree in education; and

19

WHEREAS, Ray Scheiter married Rose on December 17, 1960;
20
and

21

WHEREAS, Ray Scheiter worked as a teacher, coach,

principal, and superintendent at Central School District in
2
Camp Point; during his tenure as superintendent, he initiated
3
football as a varsity sport, added kindergarten, and directed
4
the construction of three new elementary buildings; he also
5
spent time as the regional superintendent of education for
6
Adams and Pike Counties; and

7

WHEREAS, Ray Scheiter received an award of recognition
8
from the Illinois State Board of Education's Those Who Excel
9
program; and

10

WHEREAS, Ray Scheiter and Rose enjoyed traveling and
11
spending time with their grandchildren; they volunteered to
12
travel to Ground Zero in New York in 2001 to work with the
13
National Organization of Victims Assistance and assisted
14
families of the victims of the 911 terrorist attacks; and

15

WHEREAS, Ray Scheiter was a member of Trinity Lutheran
16
Church in Golden and later a member of Trinity United Church of
17
Christ; and

18

WHEREAS, Ray Scheiter was preceded in death by his wife,
19
Rose; his parents; his brother, Bobby Joe Scheiter; and his
20
sister, Linda Miller; and

21

WHEREAS, Ray Scheiter is survived by his children, Robert

(Cindy) Scheiter, Angie (Mark) Bridges, and Renee (Curtis)
2
Higgins; his grandchildren, Molly Bridges, Alec Bridges, Megan
3
(Ethan) Linnemeyer, Rylan (Ashley) Scheiter, Grant (Breanna)
4
Higgins, and Gavin Higgins; and his great-grandchildren,
5
Isabella, Dax, Harper, Reis, Rowan, and Elliot; therefore, be
6
it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
8
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9
Raymond Alfred "Ray" Scheiter Jr. and extend our sincere
10
condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
11
him; and be it further

12

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13
presented to the family of Ray Scheiter as a symbol of our
14
deepest sympathy.
