SENATE RESOLUTION

2

WHEREAS, Women's History Month is observed annually in the
3
United States during the month of March to recognize and
4
celebrate the vital contributions and achievements of women
5
throughout the United States and around the world; and

6

WHEREAS, March 8 is universally recognized as
7
International Women's Day, which honors the achievements and
8
contributions of women globally; and

9

WHEREAS, The United Nations celebrated its first official
10
International Women's Day during International Women's Year on
11
March 8, 1975, highlighting the global importance of
12
recognizing women's accomplishments; and

13

WHEREAS, Women have played a vital role in shaping the
14
history, prosperity, and character of the United States
15
through leadership in families, communities, the workforce,
16
and public service; and

17

WHEREAS, The strength of the United States has always been
18
rooted in strong families, and women serving as mothers,
19
daughters, sisters, caregivers, entrepreneurs, educators, and
20
leaders have been essential to nurturing those families and
21
communities; and

WHEREAS, Throughout our nation's history, women have made
2
extraordinary contributions in various fields, including
3
agriculture, business, education, health care, law
4
enforcement, the military, public safety, public service,
5
science, and technology; and

6

WHEREAS, Women-owned businesses and women participating in
7
the workforce have contributed significantly to economic
8
growth, job creation, and innovation across the State of
9
Illinois and the United States; and

10

WHEREAS, Women have demonstrated leadership and courage in
11
advancing opportunity, defending liberty, and strengthening
12
the institutions that uphold the founding principles of the
13
United States; and

14

WHEREAS, Generations of women have worked to ensure that
15
every individual has the opportunity to pursue education,
16
develop their respective talents, and contribute meaningfully
17
to the success of their communities and the nation; and

18

WHEREAS, Women continue to serve our country with
19
distinction in emergency response roles, law enforcement, and
20
the United States Armed Forces, demonstrating bravery,
21
dedication, and commitment to protecting the freedoms enjoyed

by all Americans; and

WHEREAS, The observance of Women's History Month provides
3
an opportunity to reflect upon the achievements of women
4
throughout history and to recognize their ongoing
5
contributions to the success and prosperity of our State and
6
nation; and

WHEREAS, Recognizing the accomplishments of women serves
8
to inspire young women and girls to pursue education,
9
leadership, entrepreneurship, service, and innovation in every
10
field of endeavor; and

11

WHEREAS, It is appropriate to celebrate the achievements
12
of women and reaffirm a commitment to expanding opportunity so
13
that women may continue to thrive, lead, and contribute to the
14
strength of the State of Illinois and the United States;
15
therefore, be it

16

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
17
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare March 2026
18
as Women's History Month in the State of Illinois; and be it
19
further

20

RESOLVED, That we honor the achievements and contributions
21
of women throughout the State of Illinois, the United States,

and the world; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we encourage citizens to recognize and
3
celebrate the women in their lives and communities whose
4
dedication, service, and leadership strengthen our State and
5
nation.
