SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to
3
recognize Sue Bustin on her service as medical caseworker of
4
the Joliet Township Government Office for more than two
5
decades; and

6

WHEREAS, Sue Bustin was born and raised in Joliet,
7
graduating from Joliet East High School and obtaining her
8
associate's degree from Joliet Junior College; she proceeded
9
to attend Illinois Masonic Medical Center School of Nursing
10
and earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of
11
Wisconsin; and

12

WHEREAS, Sue Bustin was hired as medical caseworker of the
13
Joliet Township Government Office on June 17, 2002, where she
14
worked until her retirement on December 26, 2025; and

15

WHEREAS, In her role as medical caseworker, Sue Bustin
16
provided Joliet Township residents with information on
17
available community resources and was responsible for
18
assisting residents who were awaiting short- or long-term
19
disability through the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and
20
Social Security Disability (SSD) programs as well as worker's
21
compensation, personal injury settlements, or were off work
22
due to health issues; through the Joliet Township General

Assistance welfare program, she also assisted with rent,
2
mortgage, or utility payments while residents waited for their
3
benefits to be approved; and

4

WHEREAS, Sue Bustin's duties included running the Joliet
5
Township's medical loan closet, always guaranteeing that those
6
in need were able to obtain the proper equipment required;
7
under her guidance, the medical loan closet expanded
8
significantly, and it now provides a wide range of medical
9
equipment and supplies; she further represented the township
10
at Community Cares Program meetings with the Joliet Fire
11
Department and worked with Share Fest to ensure the township's
12
micro pantries were fully stocked; and

13

WHEREAS, During her tenure, Sue Bustin was noted for
14
serving her clients with attentiveness, compassion, and
15
empathy, and her selfless efforts were previously recognized
16
when she was named one of the 2017 Herald News Everyday Heroes;
17
and

18

WHEREAS, Sue Bustin has remained active in her community,
19
serving as a four-time president of the American Legion Post
20
1080 Auxiliary, a past president of both the Will County
21
American Legion Auxiliary and the 11th District American
22
Legion Auxiliary, a longtime member of the Abraham Lincoln
23
National Cemetery Support Committee, a 30-year member of the

Exchange Club, a five-year member and two-year president of
2
the Will County Humane Society Board, and a volunteer for
3
Honor Flight Chicago, Operation Care Package, the Special
4
Olympics, and various breast cancer causes; she has also
5
visited veterans at Hope Manor Joliet and local nursing homes;
6
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
8
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Sue
9
Bustin for her service and dedication as medical caseworker of
10
the Joliet Township Government Office for 23 and a half years;
11
and be it further

12

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13
presented to Sue Bustin as an expression of our esteem and
14
respect.
