SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3
to learn of the death of Marleen Kay King, who passed away on
4
March 15, 2026; and

5

WHEREAS, Kay King, the daughter of John S. Hudson and
6
Verna "Pat" Hudson, was born in Springfield on August 9, 1945;
7
she graduated from Springfield High School in 1963, where she
8
was a member of the state champion cheerleading team; she
9
received a degree in physical therapy from Washington
10
University in St. Louis, Missouri; she married N. Richard King
11
in Springfield on September 23, 1972; and

12

WHEREAS, Kay King worked at St. John's Hospital,
13
Springfield Public Schools District 186, and Doctors Hospital;
14
she later became a consultant for local nursing homes,
15
training aides and teaching proper coding for services; after
16
she and her family moved to Portland, Oregon in 1978, she
17
worked for the Visiting Nurse Association; upon returning to
18
Springfield in 1986, she dedicated herself to the Hope School
19
Board of Directors and later the Hope School Foundation,
20
retiring after 23 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Kay King was passionately involved in the family
22
business, King Technology, Inc., where she was the majority

stockholder, served as president, and was responsible for
2
winning lucrative projects; for the business, she obtained a
3
Women Owned Enterprise (BEP) certification from the State of
4
Illinois and a Women's Business Enterprise (WBE) certification
5
from the Women's Business Enterprise National Council; and

6

WHEREAS, Kay King held a passion for real estate,
7
redeveloping seven houses, one office building, and three
8
apartments in Chicago's Gold Coast along with properties in
9
Rio Hondo, Texas, including her parents' home, the house next
10
door, and a home on the Arroyo Colorado River; and

11

WHEREAS, Kay King loved traveling and visited many
12
destinations, including Europe, Africa, Russia, and the Amazon
13
River, and she was a celebrated cook and hostess known for
14
throwing unforgettable parties filled with music, laughter,
15
and warmth; and

16

WHEREAS, Kay King lived a life marked by boundless energy,
17
sharp intellect, and a generous spirit that touched everyone
18
around her; and

19

WHEREAS, Kay King was preceded in death by her parents;
20
her brother, John B. Hudson; and her brother-in-law, Charles
21
"Bud" King; and

WHEREAS, Kay King is survived by her husband; her
2
children, Kimberly King, Isaac Seaborn King, and Micah Richard
3
King; her grandchildren, Kalvin King and Lola King; and five
4
nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

5

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTH GENERAL
6
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7
Marleen Kay King and extend our sincere condolences to her
8
family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
9
further

10

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11
presented to the family of Kay King as an expression of our
12
deepest sympathy.
